Pop Rock Bands

Open Auditions for 2022-2023 Pop Rock Bands will be by appointment on
Monday, August 21 from 4-6 pm at the Academy
or by video submission by 8.21.23 6 pm.

Students must perform one complete song at least three minutes long on the instrument(s) of their choice. Singers must also play an instrument. The song must have 4 different chords, and if auditioning for the guitar, the song must have at least 1 bar chord. You can play along with a music or click track.

 

Preferred songs include "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day, “Basket Case” by Green Day, “Brain Stew” Green Day, “Smells like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, “Creep” by Radiohead, “Seven Nation Army” by White Stripes, “I Will Survive” by Cake, “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals, “Santeria” by Sublime, “Zombie” by The Cranberries

Description: Students selected for this class will perform both as an instrumental ensemble and/or as accompaniment for live vocalists.

​

Prerequisites: Admission to class by audition only. All students must have their own instrument to bring it to class and for practice at home. We do have an electronic drum set, keyboard and amps/mics available for use.

 

Time Commitment/ Schedule: Class is Mondays 5-6 pm. Students will be required to attend an additional 2 to 3 hours of rehearsal prior to any scheduled performance. Private lessons will be available to all Pop Rock performers as well. Cost for class is $52 per month.

 

Objectives: Students in this class will learn to play and work as a group in actual live performance situations with emphasis on the following skills: reading music, writing music, interpreting song charts, ear-training, stage setup and tear down, teamwork and professionalism. Maximum class size 10 (2 Drums, 2 bass, 2 guitars, 2 keys) 2 guest vocalists. Minimum class size 3.

 

Required Materials: All students must bring their own instruments, cords, music stands, music folders with sheet music, notebooks and pencils to every class. Piano keyboard, drum set, as well as amplifiers for all electric instruments will be available for use. Drummers must always bring their own sticks, brushes, and mallets.

Possible Performances:

Top Billing Recitals and Showcases, LA Fair, OC Fair, Disneyland, Oak Tree Festival, Glendora Village Events including the Holiday Stroll, Retirement Centers, Restaurants, and more!
